SEASON 2 WRAP UP

Congratulations to Kevin for the League title!

Girondins de Bordeaux has had an unparalelled hold of League 1, and secured the title a few fixtures before the end of the season. The French set a new record of points in the 1st division, finishing a solid 8 points above runners-up Aston Villa. The Villains are yet to add title to cup, but a feat not so difficult to achieve with the star youngster squad. Karim Benzema is Bordeaux's player of the season, with a whopping 17 of his team's 53 goals in 21 league matches, with another top scorer trophy cramping his storage room. Well done Kevin!

But the surprise of the season was the 2nd tier squad of Académica winning the Pioneers Cup. A memorable moment for the Portuguese, going through the works of Hercules by facing only 1st tier sides on the path to the Final. João Jota, 23yo Portuguese winger, scored the only goal in the Final against Royal Antwerp, but keeper Guglielmo Vicario was certainly the player in the fans' hearts after having kept the nets clean thourghout the whole ordeal.

But the Students weren't so lucky on the promotion run, after having lost against Vasco da Gama in the play-offs final. The Brazilians advance towards 1st division along with Le Havre and Bolton Wanderers, the latter collecting their second consecutive lower league title. 2nd division's competitive level has no parallel, and the table is something to behold, with only 15 points difference between title and relegation; needless to say that decisions were delayed to the last fixture.

Moghreb Tétouan led the 3rd division promotion race with an undefeated season, followed by Sheffield Wednesday making a comeback and a ressurgent Hearts of Oak. The same division receives Mohun Bagan, with a well deserved 1st place, Koninklijke and Wrexham, excaping the 4th tier.

Exciting 2nd season, and hopefully many more to come.
